5 Truck Accessories You Need to Prepare for Tailgating Season

Updated: Apr 4

How to Upgrade Your Truck for Maximum Party Potential

Fall is officially upon us. That means football, beers, grilling, chili cook-offs, and all sorts of opportunities to get together with friends and enjoy the games. Nothing gets the party going like pulling up in a truck that’s locked and loaded with all your favorite tailgating supplies. The tricky part is that even the largest trucks only have a limited amount of space. In order to make the most out of your tailgating experience, you have to be a little strategic in what you decide to add on to it.

Here at Stereo Depot, we’ve outfitted numerous trucks with tailgating upgrades. If you haven’t yet geared up your truck for football season this year, here are a few ideas to keep in mind.

1 – Stereo System

We’re putting a stereo system at the top of the list because you really can’t have a tailgate party without one. If you don’t have one already, go with a system that features Bluetooth so you can conveniently pair your phone with it. This will keep you from having to visit the cab every ten minutes to switch songs. We specialize in car audio and car stereo systems here at Stereo Depot, so feel free to bring your truck by and we can get you set up.

2 - Speakers

Nothing gets a tailgate party going like a good soundtrack. In order to pump up the volume, you’re going to need a powerful pair of speakers. However, even if you’ve invested thousands of dollars into your truck’s sound system, those speakers are likely pointing inwards to fill the cab with music rather than outwards towards your tailgating party. You’ll need a pair of auxiliary speakers or a Bluetooth car speaker if you want to get the crowd going in the stadium’s parking lot.

A great option to go with is something like the Ion Audio iPA77 Tailgater & PA system. This little unit is portable, packs a mean punch in the sound department, and retails for right around $100. It’s also small enough that you can store it in the cab of your truck while you’re inside watching the game.

3 – Adjustable Heavy-Duty Hitch

Most trucks come with the standard ball hitch, but if you’re going to be lugging around a bunch of tailgating gear (portable BBQ smokers come to mind) then you’ll want something stronger and more reliable. An adjustable heavy-duty hitch should do just the trick. These devices allow you to take on virtually any towing operation your truck needs to handle, including non-tailgating items such as trailers and storage containers on wheels. Whatever the case may be, an adjustable heavy-duty hitch will come in handy when you need to haul heavy loads.

4 – Industrial Cargo and Floor Mats

If it’s one thing that we know about tailgating, it’s that it can get pretty messy out there in the lot. People spill, drop food, and whatever else you can think of. Since your truck is essentially going to be serving as party central, it’s best to protect your vehicle any way you can. That’s why it’s never a bad idea to invest in industrial cargo and floor mats. You can use these to keep the bed of your truck free from damage and party fouls and the interior of your truck mess-free. These also come in handy if you happen to be trekking through mud and have no way of wiping your shoes off. You can put your feet down right on the mats and wash them off later.

5 – LED Truck Lighting

The same way stadiums have light, so too should your truck. Sometimes the party happens at night and you need a little extra oomph in the lighting department to keep your tailgating event going strong. There’s a ton of options as far as LED truck lighting goes. Here at Stereo Depot we offer single or dual bar LED lights, flood beams, and all sorts of other solutions that can be installed on your bumper or roof rack. They’re super powerful, so you can be assured that no matter what time it is, your truck will have the capability to keep the party lit.
